Daydreaming about something new to try out this fall? Forest Park is hosting just the thing this month. Join a group of hobbyists whose heads are in the clouds (literally) at the Great Forest Park Balloon Race. This St. Louis tradition started in 1973 and has continued strong, becoming the oldest, best attended hot air balloon race in the country.
This free event kicks off September 16th with the annual Balloon Glow. Spectators can take a stroll through Central Field and take in the magical sights of unique, colorful balloons lit by their burners against the darkening sky.
Saturday, September 17th families can enjoy live entertainment, children’s games and food. Aspiring photographers in the St. Louis area can join the photography contest and submit their photos from the balloon field for a chance to win prizes. Skydivers will perform as the opening act to the main event.
Then, grab a seat to watch the breathtaking, one-of-a-kind view as the balloons take off for the races, dotting the evening sky with their colored silhouettes. There’s nothing quite like seeing these beautiful balloons against the St. Louis skyline. Don’t miss this St. Louis tradition—mark your calendars now for the 44th annual Great Forest Park Balloon Race!
