Corvette's New Eight-Speed Transmission to get 30/MPG

ST. LOUIS, Miss – Typically, when you hear the word Corvette you would not think fuel-efficient. Well according to General Motors, we just may be able to put the two together. The Corvette’s New Eight-Speed Transmission is expected to get 30/MPG and is set to debut in the 2015 Corvette Z06. This just may be the final element in facilitating fuel efficiency in Chevrolet performance vehicles!

The Corvette’s New Eight-Speed Transmission that is expected to get 30/MPG is the final piece of the puzzle, according to a recent report from the Society of Automotive Engineers. General Motors is sure that the new 8L90 eight-speed transmission will be able to provide 30 mpg for Corvette drivers. This transmission improves efficiency up to 5 percent from the current 6L80 six-speed that is currently in the Corvette Stingray. The eight-speed transmission is not only 8 pounds lighter than the six-speed, it also shifts 0.8 seconds quicker than the Porsche 911 dual-clutch transmission.

This enhanced transmission is set to debut in the 2015 Corvette Z06 and we will hopefully see the standard car adopt the new transmission for the 2016 model year.
